DUA Philosophy
Islam offers a total and comprehensive system and world view in which there is no separation between religious beliefs and morality on the one hand and a secular social system on the other. As such it determines the objectives and influences the content of the entire curriculum whether it relates to the teaching of literature, history, science, art or any other subject. Islamic values, for example underpin literary appreciation and provide the yardstick for judging the worth of any work.
In the teaching of history, Islamic perspectives illuminate facts and shape value judgements and help to form a distinctively Islamic world view.
Muslims pupils must be provided with an Islamic haven strengthening their faith, enriching their life and protecting them from destructive ideological influences and prejudices which distort the human personality.
In science, the principle of Tawheed is emphasised and through science, pupils develop an awareness of the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe and man’s proper place in it, using but not abusing the resources that the Creator has placed at man’s disposal. In art, a standard of aesthetics, modesty and morality govern the practice and criticism of art. In commercial subjects, Islamic business practices are emphasised.

It is rather a multi-faceted programme that includes a variety of activities embracing inter alia enrichment, environmental projects, community service, recreation and tarbiyah as learning. Further YL cannot be seen as a stand-alone programme. It has to be integrated with whole school policy as well as with other academic disciplines. It therefore impacts on all persons involved with the school including the community, governing body, headmaster, teachers, support staff, students and parents.
